PETA-Approved Label - the seal for products without animal suffering
Especially when shopping online, we quickly feel overwhelmed by the many options. There is a fine line between pure shopping pleasure and complete sensory overload. In the fashion industry, there are now many suppliers who have made sustainability and a sense of responsibility their watchwords. But is this really the case? Which suppliers really care about a sustainable approach to nature and who merely uses the supposed trend to market their products?
This is where a very special label comes into play. The PETA-Approved Label helps you to recognise vegan products more easily. Sounds helpful? It is more than that. Because the label is on the one hand a reaction to the increased awareness of animal welfare and on the other hand a powerful tool to further promote awareness.
Briefly about PETA
PETA stands for "People for Ethical Treatment of Animals" and is the world's largest animal welfare organisation. Founded in 1980, the organisation has several million members and supporters around the world. PETA uses provocative educational campaigns and public campaigns to draw attention to abuses, for example in factory farming or in cosmetics production.
PETA-Approved Seal - What's behind it?
Small influence, big impact. As a human being and in the role of a customer, you can't always do everything perfectly. Countless indications and uncertainties about the trustworthiness of these then make the whole thing even more difficult. You lose perspective and don't really know what you can buy with a clear conscience. It helps just to think about it. Small steps are more valuable than you think. And this is exactly where the label comes in and navigates you through the opaque labyrinth of false sustainability promises. The PETA-Approved Label for products is intended to make it easier for consumers to make animal-friendly purchases. At the same time, obtaining the label is to be made uncomplicated for companies, so that numerous vegan products can be recognised as such more quickly by customers in the future. To obtain the seal, traders must be able to confirm the accuracy of the information. After all, guarantees cannot simply be passed on to customers without actually being able to keep them.
It's a No - these products are not vegan and therefore may not be labelled with the PETA-Approved seal:
- Leather
- Silk
- Wool
- Down
- Fur
- Animal dye
- Animal glue
What are the limits of the PETA-Approved label?
PETA-Approved shows you very quickly whether a product is really vegan. So you only need to take a single look. So the seal is a good first step towards ethically responsible consumption. But there is still room for improvement. Because there are still many more criteria regarding the sustainability of a product that are not taken into account by the PETA-Approved seal.
Looking for inspiration? These questions can also help you make a more sustainable purchasing decision:
- How environmentally friendly are the materials used?
- How durable is the product?
- How many resources were used to make the product?
- What transport route has the product been on?
- Is it more sustainable to order the product online or to buy it in a bricks-and-mortar store?
- What are the working conditions in the production of the product?
- What production sites does the company have and what impact, if any, do they have on the local economy?
Attention - In the area of sustainability, there are other seals for products that help you with your purchase decision. These seals support you in making sustainable decisions:
- Global Organic Textile Standard: This seal indicates social and ecological criteria in the production of textiles. As the world's leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, the GOTS shows you that the entire textile supply chain is green.
- “Made in Green" by Oeko Tex: The label not only indicates that the textile in question has been tested for harmful substances, it also shows you that the textile has been produced sustainably. With just one look, you can be sure that two sustainable criteria have been met.
- Cradle to Cradle Certified: This supports environmentally intelligent designs. Products should not simply end up in the rubbish after use, but become a product again. It is precisely this recycling of individual elements that the C2C seal refers to.
Make an IMPACKT - with a PETA-Approved suitcase
To be truly sustainable, you should avoid unnecessary consumption. Only buy new what you really need and rather opt for durable products that you can easily repair.
We have also focused on this guiding principle in the development of our sustainable suitcase line. Our suitcases are not only made with vegan, recycled materials, but are also particularly robust. Simply repair instead of buying new is the motto. Since we focus on durability in our products, this will hardly ever be the case, but should a suitcase still have a defective roll after long use, it can simply be replaced on its own. It can be so simple!
Realtalk - What makes our IMPACKT suitcases vegan?
Vegan suitcases - it's all just marketing! After all, every suitcase that is not made of leather is also vegan - right? This question can be answered with a clear "no". That's not really true. Otherwise, all suitcases without leather materials would also be certified and PETA-approved. What makes our suitcases vegan is not only the visible, animal-free and recycled materials. It's also the inner values that count! Most adhesives contain animal ingredients. However, IMPACKT uses an adhesive that is completely vegan and without animal components.
